Art Club
A place for students in all grades to come and experience art-making year round. During this club we explore drawing, painting, sculpture, decoupage as well as personal art interests. Students experiment with various materials such as acrylic, pastels, watercolor, charcoal, plaster and clay. This club is a chance for students to really explore their personal interest while learning more about the materials.

Artistic Journaling Club
A fun way to make art. It is a combination of a sketchbook, scrapbook, diary, and journal. It’s a messy, creative, inventive collection of pages filled with creations from your imagination. Using doodles, drawings, paint, markers, stencils, spritz & splatters, collage, stickers, poems, quotes, inspirational words, photographs, and more to bring your story, feelings, dreams, goals, and creations to life! Weekly prompts are provided to help kick-start creativity.

Board Games & More Club
Too much time on your phone? Tired of playing online games? Want to socialize and have fun? Play games with a friend or make a new friend!

Book Buddies Club
This book club will foster and encourage a love of reading. Comprehensive skills will be reinforced through discussion and reflection.

The checker and chess club will meet and discuss both games. There will also be tournament days.

C.J. Hooker Newspaper
Students will publish a monthly newspaper with articles, stories, school events and photos.

Computer Club
In this club we look at all things related to computers – hardware, software, coding, you name it! This is a fun way to become more familiar with what makes computers tick.

Cooking Club
Designed to allow students the opportunity to explore cooking a variety of items. The purpose of the Cooking Club will be to instruct students in the preparation and selection of fresh food. Students will participate in cooking activities, while focusing on safety, measuring, and cooking techniques.

Drama Club
Designed to introduce children to theater. Children will work collaboratively, building trusting relationships in order to put on a school show. They will be exposed to acting techniques, learn different theater terminology, singing techniques, and many other aspects of being an actor on stage As it gets closer to the performance dates, rehearsals will be scheduled more frequently.

Environmental Club
Designed to provide students with a platform for identifying and achieving C.J. Hooker’s environmental goals. The club also helps to facilitate environmental awareness of both local and worldwide issues. Students are provided with the opportunity to contribute positively to the school community by assisting with the school’s recycling program as well as developing service projects based on student interest.

Foreign Language Club
Students will partake in cultural activities aimed at discovering the cultures and customs of various countries, and in learning some conversational skills in several languages! The countries and languages offered will be chosen in the beginning of the year and will reflect our rich heritage at the school.

Garden Club
Learn how to maintain our school’s creative landscaped areas through mulching, pulling and identifying weeds, trimming shrubs/trees, planting flowering bulbs in the fall and perennials in the spring. Special projects might include making your own birdhouse from wood and designing a birdbath from various recycled materials.

Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA)
The Gender and Sexuality Alliance is a student-led group designed to provide a safe and accepting school environment for LGBTQIA+ students and their allies. The GSA is a place where all students can feel welcomed and free. Students are able to discuss serious issues like harassment, discrimination and depression while celebrating the pride and gains of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Harmony
Members must audition to be part of this unique vocal ensemble. Singers continuously blend numerous vocal parts together to create intricate harmonies and soulful melodies to “pop” and upbeat music. Some choreography and movement are added to enhance the overall experience. This fun and exciting singing group will perform at school and community events to help promote music. It’s a wonderful and cultural way to help young singers expand their horizons.

Homework Club
(P.A.S.S.—Positive Actions for Student Success) Based upon teacher recommendation, students are selected to participate in afterschool homework activities. Strategies and skills are provided to students that will assist them in becoming more responsible and independent with their assignments.

Jazz Band
The Goshen Youth Jazz Band performs music from the Big Band Era up to modern-day Rock and Pop! An emphasis is placed on ensemble playing, soloing/improvisation, and appropriate stylistic representation. Additionally, this ensemble experience helps to prepare students for All-County Jazz Band auditions as well as ensemble participation at the high school level.

Lab Band
This ensemble is the perfect way for students to learn about jazz music, different styles of playing, and an introduction to improve. No audition necessary to join.

LEO Club
A service club that supports the local community, the students and families of the Goshen Central School District, and global organizations. LEO stands for: Leadership, Experience and Opportunity.

Let’s Get Organized
Students will learn skills to stay organized in school. Each week we will clean out and organize folders, binders and even lockers. This will be coordinated with students’ teachers.

Math Team
Students participating in this activity will be expected to attend 10 to 15 practice sessions, complete practice problems on their own and participate in 5 interschool meets. Math knowledge is an extension and enhancement of typical middle school math classes. Events in a competition include “speed and accuracy,” “calculator,” “percentages,” “geometry,” “wild card,” and either a relay or cooperative group question.

The School Store
Open daily during homeroom and lunch periods. Members take part in planning store events, ordering merchandise, organizing merchandise, pricing merchandise & keeping daily profit/loss log. Members are expected to be courteous, helpful & respectful to all who visit the store.

Science Forum
Promotes the study of science, technology, engineering and math through various hands-on enrichment.

Select Chorus
This beautiful music ensemble is filled with sweet melodies and amazing harmonies. Members must audition and have basic knowledge of vocal training and pitch recognition. A variety of music will be explored, from classical to Broadway, to rock! This wonderful singing group will perform at school and community events to help promote music. It is a great and cultural way to help young singers develop their musical talents!

Ski Club
Open to students who want to ski or snowboard. All levels from beginner to advanced are welcome. The club takes 5 trips to Mountain Creek in Vernon, NJ. Students should purchase season lift tickets or 5-day lift tickets through Mountain Creek using the ski club log-in (discounted group rates available for students and their families). Parents/guardians must submit payment and sign a permission slip that is due mid-November. Parents/Guardians must also fill out the online Parent Contact Information Google Form and purchase lift tickets by Dec. 1. Students are required to take at least one lesson, no matter their skill level, on the first day they attend the trips.

Spirit Club
Students will work together to build school spirit and camaraderie within the school community. Students will create “Spirit Days,” special events, and a variety of other social activities to enhance their experience at the middle school.

Student Government
Come represent the interests and concerns of the student body! Students can take an active part in their school life (be involved with sponsorship and/or development of school-wide or grade-level programs) while also learning/developing leadership skills. Our five areas of concentration will be: Service, Fundraising, Philanthropy, School Activities and Government… all while having fun! We will research a fundraiser that we can implement on a yearly basis with ease and run via the Student Government.
