#FacultyFriday: Amanda Cayton

This week’s spotlight is on Amanda Cayton, a teacher’s aide in the Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School Health Office who has been with the district for 10 years.

Cayton worked as an Emergency Medical Technician and acquired experience working in retail until she joined the Goshen Central School District in 2014. The Jill-of-all-trades began her career in Goshen as a Food Service Helper before moving to a Custodial Worker position in 2016, and Teacher’s Aide substitute in 2019.

“I love working directly with students,” she said.

She has been working in her current position as an aide to the nurse in the SAS Health Office since 2022.

Cayton found the district when searching for a career where she could work while her children were in school- and her time in Goshen brought her even more than she expected.

“Goshen was perfect because my son was attending Inspire on Fletcher Street, so I was nearby,” she said. “I ended up meeting and marrying my husband who also works for Goshen as a Head Custodian.”

In the future, Cayton said she would like to go back to school to become a school nurse.

“The best part of the position is assisting the kids when they’re hurt, and getting them to smile again,” she said.

Outside work, Cayton enjoys knitting, reading and playing video games. She is also a Cub Scout Den Leader and working on creating a Girl’s Troop near where she lived in Minisink.

BONUS FACT: “I love tacos,” Cayton admitted. “There’s so many different toppings to choose from!”

Thank you so much, Amanda Cayton, for all you do! We appreciate you!
