This week’s spotlight is on Goshen High School History Teacher Carmina Villegas, an educator who has been with the district for 16 years.

Villegas earned her bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and Education, and her master’s degree in Special Education, before jumping into her teaching career right out of college in 2005.

First, the history teacher covered a maternity leave at Greenwood Lake Middle School. Then she taught at Minisink High School before joining the faculty at Goshen in 2007.

As an alumnus of the Goshen Central School District, she said she was excited for the opportunity to come back to her old stomping grounds.

“I had always dreamed of coming back as an educator,” Villegas said. “I wanted to be able to give back to the community who served me so well when I was a student here.”

Her goals, she said, are to motivate those around her to construct a life where they are happy and truly enjoying their experiences.

“The history department at the high school is very energetic, and we hope it radiates to the student body,” said Villegas.

Each day, the educator said she looks forward to creating a learning environment where students look forward to progressing in their education.

Outside of work, Villegas said she loves playing games.

“If you know me, you know that I am competitive,” she said. “I love playing board games, video games, billiards and cooking!”

Thank you, Carmina Villegas, for all you do! We appreciate you!
