This week’s spotlight is on a long-time district employee who has been in both the schools and the district office while serving Goshen for more than a decade.
Although Michelle Serna is in her first year as the Senior School Secretary for Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, Personnel & Technology Jason Carter, she most recently served as the district’s registrar for four years, and was a teacher’s aide at Goshen Intermediate School for seven years before that.
Before joining the district, Serna was a senior administrative assistant to the general manager at Radio City Music Hall and part of the Madison Square Garden family for 13 years.
Serna’s choice to join Goshen schools was easy, she said, because she is a resident and parent to two Goshen High School graduates.
“The education and extra-curricular activities offered in Goshen are extensive and very rewarding,” she said. “I was inspired to join Goshen Schools as an employee by a family member who worked in the district and thoroughly enjoyed it.”
The clerical assistant said her goal is to continue providing Goshen students, families and residents the best experiences possible and to help support our faculty and staff for every possible success.
“I look forward to seeing out schools continue to expand and improve on their student enrichment, health and safety programs, and watching the growth of our students as they benefit from their educational experiences and reach their best possible outcomes,” she said.
Outside work, Serna enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband, beautiful daughters, family and friends. She also writes a bit of poetry.
BONUS FACT: Her favorite food, she said, is “Pizzagaina,” a traditional Italian family dish.
“It’s served once a year during the Easter holiday,” said Serna. “It is delicious and evokes nostalgia and pleasant memories for me.”
Thank you for all you do, Michelle Serna! We appreciate you!
