Goshen Intermediate School Principal Dr. Matthew Wentworth has been named the 2025 SAANYS/NAESP Elementary School Principal of the Year! Dr. Wentworth will be recognized on May 2, 2025 at the SAANYS Awards Dinner and again by the New York State Board of Regents in October. In the fall, Dr. Wentworth will go to the White House along with other principals being recognized for the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) National Celebration.

“While I’m the one standing here tonight, this recognition definitely truly belongs to the outstanding faculty and staff that we have at Goshen Intermediate School. It’s their hard work, dedication and genuine care for the students that makes G.I.S. such a special place,” Dr. Wentworth said at the Board of Education meeting where he was recognized.

“I want to thank the Goshen community, especially our students,” Dr. Wentworth continued. “You inspire us daily and remind us why our work matters. This award is not an ending point at all, it’s just a moment to reflect, celebrate, and move forward together. I do look forward to many more years of serving the Goshen community and continuing to build on the great work that we’re doing together right now.”
The criteria NAESP follows for this award include nominees having membership for one year when nominated, being a practicing principal with five years of experience with plans to continue practicing as a principal, and “evidence of outstanding contributions to the community and to the education profession.”
Some of the students in Ms. Ruggiero’s class made gold medals for Dr. Wentworth following this recognition!

Congratulations, Dr. Wentworth on this recognition! We are so proud of you and your work that enriches the education and lives of our students.
