Share your voice: Attend the Blue Ribbon Commission Ambassador Forum

Orange-Ulster BOCES will host a Blue Ribbon Commission Ambassador Forum from 6:30-8 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Carl P. Onken Conference Center, 53 Gibson Road in Goshen.

The forum is open to all community members to learn about the proposed vision for New York schools, as outlined by the New York State Education Department’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures.

Participants will gain insight into the four proposed transformations for New York schools: adopting the New York State Portrait of a Graduate, redefining credits, sunsetting diploma assessment requirements, and moving to one diploma. Participants will engage in meaningful discussions about the proposal’s opportunities and challenges in order to help shape the future of education in New York state.

Guest speaker is Linda Romano, BSN, RN, CNE, FC NBCT-National Board Certified Teacher-Early Adolescent/Young Adult.

What is the Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures?

In 2019, the Board of Regents announced the creation of the Blue Ribbon Commission on Graduation Measures in order to rethink New York’s graduation requirements. Together with the State Education Department, the Board of Regents held regional meetings across the state to gather input from a variety of stakeholders, exploring what a state diploma should signify in order to ensure educational excellence and equity for all students in New York state.

The Blue RIbbon Commission proposed its Graduation Measures initiative to the Board of Regents on June 10, 2024. A comprehensive implementation plan for the Board of Regents’ consideration will be presented in November 2024 after gathering feedback from the Ambassador forums that are being held state-wide.
