About the District
The Goshen Central School District was established in 1937. The buildings and athletic facilities are well-maintained and serve as community centers, meeting many of the recreational needs of all age groups within the school district.
Approximately 2,900 students are enrolled in four buildings organized by grade levels to provide the most effective staffing and physical space for our enriching programs. The schools are almost within sight of each other on spacious grounds in the northeast corner of the Village of Goshen. Each building is encouraged to develop and maintain its own personality within the district’s overall philosophy. Each building has an active and supportive parent/teacher group and year-round educational opportunities.
Approximately 90 percent of our graduates enroll in further education, with many of the nation’s highly competitive colleges and universities regularly represented among their destinations. Goshen’s dropout rate is normally below one percent and standardized test results are consistently good.

About the Community
The Goshen Central School District is in the center of Orange County, New York, approximately 60 miles northwest of New York City. The district encompasses the entire Village of Goshen, plus portions of the Towns of Chester, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Wallkill and Wawayanda. The school community is approximately 50 square miles in area and has a population of at least 23,000.
Goshen is the County Seat and home to the Goshen Historic Track and the Hall of Fame of the Trotter. Goshen is also home to Webster’s Dictionary; Noah Webster was a teacher in Goshen in 1782-1783.
There is access to a variety of cultural activities, as well as excellent recreational opportunities, either within or near Orange County. The Goshen farmers’ market is popular among residents and visitors, and there are a number of unique stores, shops and eateries throughout the village. You will find restored pianos dotted throughout town as part of The Keys of Goshen project, in cooperation with the Goshen Art League, and residents and visitors flock to the annual Illuminate Goshen New Year’s Eve Ball Drop each year. Great American Weekend, an annual event since 1981, is celebrated in honor of Fourth of July and attracts thousands of visitors. In addition, skiing, golf, tennis, swimming, boating and horseback riding are all nearby as are the Galleria Mall and the Woodbury Commons Shopping Outlet.
