Back
to School letter
from the PTO (Back)
Welcome to the
2008-2009 school year. We hope you all had an
enjoyable summer. To some, the start of the school
year is old hat, and to others, this is the first
time you’ll be enjoying our school experience.
The Parent Teacher
Organization (PTO) hopes you will be active in our
school community. We will be running our annual
membership drive at the beginning of the school
year. We encourage all families and faculty to join
the PTO regardless of your ability to attend
meetings or volunteer at events.
Your membership
fee, alone, goes a long way to help the children. We
plan many activities throughout the school year and
raise monies that benefit the children. We provide
funding to the school and teachers for activities
and items the children would otherwise do without.
For example, we provide student entertainment on
picnic day, recess games and equipment, red ribbon
week promotional items, as well as student fun
nights and many other educational and fun
activities. We encourage your involvement as much as
possible and with your help, we can reach our goals
and your children will have an outstanding school
year.
We understand not everyone can volunteer for
everything. We only ask that you help when you can
and support the PTO run activities. The first and
easiest thing you can do is join! Please fill out
the attached form and hand it in with your
membership dues. You may do this during the meet and
greet, at the orientation night, the first PTO
meeting (October 7th at 7pm), or even send it in to
school with your child in an envelope marked “PTO”.
Your attendance at the meetings is encouraged so the
school and PTO can benefit from your ideas, but if
there is ever a month you cannot make the PTO
meeting, please keep up with the happenings through
the school’s website (www.goshenschoolsny.org ), our
e-mail, or by reading the Scottie, the PTO monthly
newsletter that will come home with your child.
A description of the PTO committees is attached.
Some committees need volunteers, and others need a
chairperson. If you have any questions about the
committee or the level of involvement necessary,
please do not hesitate to call Sharon Frey
(294-8024) or e-mail the PTO at saspto@gcsny.org
Communication is essential to our success, so please
let us know your ideas, comments and suggestions any
time via e-mail or call Sharon or BJ. Thank you in
advance for your participation in the PTO and we
look forward to an exciting school year with you.
Sincerely,
Sharon Frey
