“I’ve got some big shoes to fill,” said Carter, referring to his predecessor. “Mary Ann is a wonderful person who has always had a great outlook on every aspect of this profession. She took a student-first approach at all times, and she will definitely be missed by the students, parents and staff of the Intermediate School.”

Carter began working for the district two years ago, when he joined the administrative team of the C. J. Hooker Middle School as assistant principal, working alongside Principal Colleen Kane.

“I’ve had a wonderful experience working at the middle school alongside an outstanding principal and a wonderful staff,” said Carter. “It will be tough to move on, but knowing that the Intermediate School also has a very solid, proven staff, whom I’m eager to work with, helps ease the transition.”

Before coming to Goshen, Carter, who lives in Greentown, Pa., with his wife, Jamie, and daughter, Lily, taught in a sixth grade setting for eight years at the Dingman-Delaware Middle School in the Delaware Valley School District in Matamoras, Pa.

He received a B. S. in elementary and kindergarten education from The Pennsylvania State University and a Masters degree in educational leadership from Wilkes University.

Carter will use all of his teaching and leadership experiences as he enters this new phase in his career, and is looking forward to one challenge in particular – working with students in grades 3-5.

“I’m really excited to work with this age group,” he said. “I have a great opportunity ahead of me, but mostly, I’m eager to work with the Intermediate School’s dynamic staff to help our students achieve academic success, and help prepare them for the future.”
