The
personal pronouns I, me, we, our,
ours, mine, you, your, or yours
cannot be used anywhere in this
essay. It is quite easy to state
your opinion without saying “I.”
For example, one can say “I think
blue is a great color” or one can
simply say “Blue is a great color”.
Also, please notice that “you” was
not used in the previous sentence
either. It will take some practice
and some proofreading but you will
get the hang of it.
Directions:
-
Choose an article discussing an
international event/issue
from an approved newspaper or
website.
-
After you have chosen the
article, answer the following
questions in a typed,
double-spaced well-organized
opinion ESSAY. The report
must be at least one,
full page and cannot be
longer than two pages.
-
This means that you MUST have
and introduction, several body
paragraphs about your main
points, and a conclusion.
-
This is an opinion response, not
a summary of the article. You
may use bits from the article to
support your opinion.
The questions you must answer within
your essay are listed below:
1.
Who wrote the article?
2. Where and when was the article
published?
3. What
region of the world is the
article discussing?
4. What event(s) occurring in the
world is the author(s) discussing?
5. What is your opinion
on the articles? (Remember to
always support your opinion)

Choice Two: Political Cartoon
Analysis
Directions:
1.
Choose
a political cartoon illustrating an
international event/issue
from the approved newspapers or
newspaper websites.
2.
After you have chosen the political
cartoon, answer the following
questions in a typed, double-spaced
well-organized ESSAY. The
report must be at least one page
and cannot be longer than two pages.
-
This means that you MUST have
and introduction, several body
paragraphs about your main
points, and a conclusion.
-
This is an opinion response, not
a summary of the cartoon. I do
not want a written summary of
the cartoon. You will not
receive a passing grade for a
written description of the
cartoon!
The
questions you must answer within
your essay are listed below:
1. Who drew the cartoon?
2. Where and when was it published?
3. What
region of the world is the
cartoonist discussing?
4. What event occurring in the world
is the cartoonist discussing?
5. What is the opinion of the
cartoonist?
6. Do
you agree or disagree with him/her?
(Support your opinion.)

Choice Three: Create Your Own
Political Cartoon
Directions:
-
Choose an article discussing
an international
event/issue
from one of the approved
newspapers or websites.
-
Type a summary of that article
in one organized paragraph.
Include the
● title of the
article
● author of article
● where it was
published ●
when it was published
● the main points of the article
●
region of the world
-
Create a political cartoon
reflecting your opinion of the
event(s) in the article.
Remember, a political cartoon is
usually funny and is always
appropriate enough to be
printed in many well-respected
publications. Your cartoon
should be similar.
-
You can draw it or use a
computer program, but it must
be your own original creation.
You cannot copy another person’s
work. If you do, you will earn
a zero on the assignment.
