Board of Education announces
Daniel
T. Connor
as next Superintendent of Schools(Back)
June 11, 2009 -
On June 1, the members of the Goshen Central
School District Board of Education announced that
Daniel T. Connor will take over the position of
Superintendent of Schools. He will fill the position
left vacant by Superintendent Roy Reese, who will
retire at the end of the school year. Connor will
begin the position on July 1.
Like Reese, Connor will rescind his retirement to
serve as Superintendent of Schools. Connor has
served a total of 20 years as Superintendent of
Schools in a number of districts in upstate New York
as well as Long Island. He retired from the Eastport
South Manor School District and in April 2008, began
working as director of staff development with
Saratoga Bridges, a nonprofit organization that
serves people with disabilities.
Connor began his journey in education 36 years ago
as an elementary health and physical education
teacher in Troy. In addition to teacher and
superintendent, he as also held the positions of
assistant high school principal, director of
athletics, junior high school principal and high
school principal.
Connor has achieved a number of successes while
serving in education, both personal and
district-related. Most notably, Connor’s leadership
helped launch the Gloversville Enlarged School
District from 83rd to 38th place out of 85 school
districts in the Capital Region for its academic
performance.
Connor received a B.S. in physical education from
the State University of New York at Cortland. He
received an M.S. in Education Administration as well
as graduation credits in Educational Administration
from the State University of New York at Albany.
Connor also took graduate courses in Educational
Administration at the State University of New York
at Plattsburgh.
He and his wife, Eileen, plan to relocate to Goshen
from Gansevoort in upstate New York in order to
truly become a part of the Goshen community.
About the Superintendent Search
In the fall, the members of the Board decided that
the best approach to conduct the superintendent
search and find the best viable candidate would be
to enlist the resources and experience of
Orange-Ulster BOCES.
Applications were accepted until mid-January, and
each applicant was screened for the appropriate
credentials. Focus groups, consisting of district
administrators, faculty, staff and community
members, helped narrow down the candidates during
the interview process. In addition to being
interviewed, candidates met with the Board of
Education, district administrators, Focus Groups,
faculty and staff; and toured the Central Office and
each school building.
