- We wish you all a happy, healthy, and
prosperous New Year!
This community never ceases to astound us by your
generosity and caring for others who are in need.
Through your caring response, we were able to send
out about 60 baskets for the Christmas, Chanukah,
and Kwanzaa holidays. Enclosed in each basket were
gift cards for local supermarkets, as well as gifts
and toys donated by local families and by the Goshen
Fire and Police Departments in a toy drive organized
by Brian Gallo, a Goshen resident and firefighter.
The Orange County Clerk’s Office and Girl Scout
Troop119 donated food, and Mrs. Knight gave us a
generous donation in honor of the GIS faculty and
staff. In addition, individual families, as well as
the faculty at SAS, adopted several families in
need. We thank everyone for their charity.
As you can imagine, our food pantry is now depleted,
so we once again ask for you to give from your
hearts, so we can replenish our resources in time
for the spring holidays. In February we will hold
our annual drive for toiletries and paper products.
March will feature our traditional "Youth Ending
Hunger Month," and the classes will be competing for
the prize for most donations. Please be as generous
as you are able to.
Our next community initiative is the ecumenical
dinner, which we will be sponsoring in February.
Come help with this community event:
Goshen Community Dinner
Saturday, February 27 at St. James Episcopal
Church in Goshen. Set up is at 4 p.m.; dinner at 5
p.m. and clean up at 6 p.m. Please prepare a dish to
bring or drop off (salads, casseroles, chicken,
vegetables, desserts, bread). Sign up with Erin
VanDunk to let her know what you’re bringing. We
look forward to working together at this fulfilling
function.
Due to popular demand, we have scheduled another
Bingo and Dessert Night. If you missed the last one,
you won’t want to miss this one. We ask club members
to contribute brownies, cookies, or cupcakes. The
raffle will be bigger and better than ever before.
All funds and nonperishable food donations will help
us to fill our Passover and Easter baskets. Come
join us at:
Bingo and Dessert Night
Friday, March 12 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the GIS
cafeteria. Cost is $3 per person ($10 max per
family) plus a nonperishable food item. Play Bingo,
enjoy dessert, and have fun! Once again, we
encourage club members and family and friends,
students, parents, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to
join us for an enjoyable evening.
A new program, the Back Pack Snack Attack, is part
of a national organization to provide food for
children who normally wouldn’t have enough food for
nourishment over the weekend. Mrs. Kathleen Kish, a
community member and nurse, brought the program to
the attention of our school nurse, Mrs. Char
O’Connor; and the Youth Ending Hunger Club is
embracing the idea. We hope to see the program begin
soon at GIS.
Our next meeting will be on Friday, February 19.
Please send in the permission slip for GIS students
wishing to attend.
Sincerely,
Youth Ending Hunger Club |
