District libraries celebrate National Library Week
(Back)
April 13, 2010 -
This year, National Library Week will be held
April 11-17 with the theme “Communities thrive @
your library.” First sponsored in 1958, National
Library Week is a national observance sponsored
by the American Library Association (ALA) and
libraries across the country each April.
Each of Goshen's school libraries will celebrate
Library Week with its own events.
In honor of Library Week, the Goshen High School
library, under the direction of Library Media
Specialist Sheryl Reese and Library Clerk Sherry
Felice, will host contest and display of the
teachers' favorite books.
The library at C. J. Hooker Middle School, under
the direction of Librarian Media Specialist
Kathryn Loughran and Library Aide Becky DenDanto,
will host guest author Michael J. Worden. Worden
is a police detective from Port Jervis who has a
passion for ghost hunting. He will discuss his
paranormal journeys as well as his book,
Ghost Detective.
Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School Library
Media Specialist Christine Banuls and Library
Aide Sally Sopalsky coordinate a number of
activities for their young students. Students
will celebrate books, authors, illustrators and
reading by promoting the PTO's Scholastic Book
Fair April 16-17. In addition, they will view
the Scholastic DVD with an assortment of book
clips, discuss favorite selections, color
bookmarks and decorate a flyer.
In addition,
students from Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School,
Goshen Intermediate School and the
C. J. Hooker Middle School will participate in the
Great New York Read Aloud at Orange-Ulster BOCES.
