2017 State Testing information

March 22, 2017 – New York students in grades 3-8 take state exams in ELA and math each spring. This year’s testing dates are:

  • March 28-30: NYS grades 3-8 English language arts exam

  • May 2-4: NYS grades 3-8 math exam

The testing experience will be similar to last year; there are no changes to the format. Students will again be provided with as much time as they need to complete the exams. This year, students in Goshen Intermediate School will participate in computer-based testing (CBT) as the New York State Education Department transitions to statewide CBT as part of its commitment to meeting the needs of 21st century learners. The tests will be available on Chromebooks. Learn more about CBT

When combined with grades, classroom activities, and unit quizzes and tests, annual assessments can provide important information about a student’s progress. State assessments also provide valuable information about the performance both of individual schools and of the district as a whole.

Academic decisions regarding student placement or promotion are based on multiple measures. Students are assessed formally and informally throughout the year to develop a complete picture of their strengths and weaknesses. No single test provides a complete picture of a student’s abilities.
