Proposed spending plan meets district’s tax levy “cap”
Residents to vote on proposed budget Tuesday, May 20

On Tuesday, May 20, Goshen Central School District residents will vote on a $65,441,124 proposed budget for 2014-15. This budget, which represents a spending increase of $1,456,651 or 2.28 percent, will result in a tax levy increase of 1.85 percent – an increase that meets the district’s legal limit as defined by New York’s tax levy cap legislation. What is the Gap Elimination Adjustment?

The Gap Elimination Adjustment, or GEA, was established in 2010 to eliminate the state’s large budget deficit by taking away promised aid from school districts. Since its inception, the state has used GEA to take back approximately $9.5 million in state aid from Goshen Schools. Learn more about GEA by watching the following video:
